This week Manchester Withington MP Jeff Smith returned to his old school, Old Moat Primary School, to open their new library.

The library was developed with the help of donations and volunteers from the south Manchester community and Withington Girls School.

Old Moat Primary School is also set to be a flagship school for the Enabling Enterprise scheme, an initiative to help students become rounded and successful later in life.  The current Year 6 will visit Manchester Science Partnerships at City Labs and construction company Laing O’Rourke in the coming weeks.

Jeff said: ‘It was a real pleasure to join the students and teachers at my old primary school at the opening ceremony of the new library. It was great to read to the assembly and talk about the importance and fun of reading.

It’s also good to hear about the new Enabling Enterprise scheme which will help students grow into successful adults. I wish them all the best!’
