Jeff unveils mosaic to mark Reverend Bob Day’s retirement

Manchester Withington MP Jeff Smith has unveiled a new mosaic at Chorlton Central Church to celebrate the completion of new community facilities at the church, and to mark the retirement of Reverend Bob Day.

The mosaic was created by local artist Tracey Cartledge with the help of many local residents and members of the church community.

One of the features of the design is that it celebrates the major faiths of Manchester with their symbols around the perimeter. The dove of peace, the design emphasises, is for all to aspire to, whether or not they have religious belief or not.

Jeff said “This is a really beautiful addition to the church and the local streetscape on Barlow Moor Road. Following the opening of the new church hall and glass wall last year, it’s the final piece in the jigsaw of the new facilities at Chorlton Central Church.

I’d also like to pay tribute to Bob Day for his years of service to the local community at the church, and wish him a happy retirement.”
