Police action in south Manchester following Westminster incident

GMP

The tragic terror attack in Westminster on Wednesday afternoon shocked us all and I know that the people of Manchester shared the grief of those who were affected.

Residents may be aware of last night’s arrest in south Manchester in connection with the incident, when a 35 year old man was arrested at an address in West Didsbury. I have been regularly updated by Greater Manchester Police throughout today, who have assured me that there is no cause for concern for residents and that they will review patrols to provide reassurance and support for our community if necessary.  It is important to stress at this time that the police have received no intelligence that suggests any raised level of threat to the safety of local people within Greater Manchester.

Terrorist incidents like the one we saw on Wednesday seek to spread fear and hatred.  The people of our diverse and tolerant city will stand united against those who wish to divide us.

If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Greater Manchester Police by calling 101, or 999 in cases of emergency.
