Why I’m seeking re-election as the MP for Manchester Withington

This morning, the Prime Minister unexpectedly called an early General Election, scheduled for June 8. After months of telling the British public that she had no plans to hold a snap election, the Prime Minister’s u-turn represents her putting her own party political interests ahead of those of the country.

However, as a Labour MP, I welcome any opportunity to make the case for an alternative to a Government that is failing our country. This Prime Minister has set our nation on a path towards a hard Brexit that will cost jobs, weaken environmental protections, and reduce our influence in the world.

Her Government has continued the work of the Lib Dem/Tory coalition in stripping away resources from our NHS, bringing our social care system to the brink of collapse, and starving local authorities and the police of the funding they need to provide services for our community.

For all these reasons and more, I will be seeking re-election as the MP for Manchester Withington. Thank you very much for all the kind offers of support I have received so far, I look forward to seeing you on the doorstep.
