Jeff Meets Constituents at Climate Change Lobby of Parliament

Time is Now

Last week, Jeff Smith MP met with constituents who were among an estimated 12,000 people lobbying parliament for urgent action on the natural environment and climate change.

Constituents urged Jeff to put pressure on the Government to introduce ambitious new laws that create a healthier environment for people and wildlife, and to support measures that end the UK’s contribution to climate change by 2045.

Speaking about the campaign, Jeff said:

“It was great to meet a large number of my constituents yesterday at the biggest ever mass lobby for climate, nature and people.

It is clear that the climate and environmental crisis is seen as the most important issue we face by many people across south Manchester. I’ll be working to make sure that message is heard in parliament at this critical moment, and pushing Labour to ensure that we press the Government to bring about a zero-carbon future.”

Shaun Spiers, Chair of Greener UK, said:

“The broad range of people and organisations supporting the lobby shows the feeling across the country that urgent action is needed, starting with an ambitious environment bill and policies that put us on track for net zero emissions by 2045. The time to act is now.”
