Lots of important parliamentary work is done in “APPGs” – All Party Parliamentary Groups, where MPs and peers come together on a cross party basis to discuss issues and work for solutions. Some of the hardest hit people during the Covid crisis have been people who work in bars, clubs and the wider night-time industries. In response, Jeff has established the APPG for the Night Time Economy, which has become one of the most active and well supported groups. It’s been pressing the government to give extra support to hospitality businesses, and is arguing for a long term solution to the debt that so many closed businesses have built up.
Along with Labour colleagues, Jeff has also been involved in highlighting the many self-employed people excluded from Government support, and pressing the government for more help.
Jeff said:
“It’s a disgrace that so many people have been left out of support for so long; it’s long overdue for the government to change the rules and help people who’ve fallen through the cracks.”
