I am delighted to hear that Afrocats has been awared £79k of funding to reduce barriers for refugees, people seeking asylum and young people facing social exclusion living across the Withington area.
The funding will be used over three years to provide extra-curricular poetry, dance, art, debating and theatre workshops for children facing social exclusion to help improve their academic performance, alongside providing community, health and wellbeing support for adults in the asylum system.
Last year Afrocats was recognised for their work in response to Manchester City Council, with a Manchester Cultural Award. They have also partnered with the Whitworth Art Gallery to deliver creative programming throughout the year.
It is a great to see a small charity in Manchester doing so much for the community. Congratulations to everyone involved.
