I enjoyed meeting Sancia and Jasmine in Parliament for the #ItsOurCare Day of Action. Over 100 care-experienced young people came down to London to talk about reforms to the children’s social care system.
The Independent Review of Children’s Social Care offers a once in a generation opportunity to transform a system that isn’t working. With over 80,000 children in England now in care, it is vital that we listen to those who have experience of the care system. They know better than anyone how the system can be improved.
Ahead of the publication of the Government’s reform package and implementation plan later this year, I want to see young people living in care involved in the policy process to make sure parliamentarians get the proposed legislation right.
