Queen Elizabeth’s passing is a sad day in our nation’s history. The Queen led a remarkable life dedicated to public service. She has been a cornerstone of British life for seven decades, and a source of stability and comfort for many during times of difficulty, from World War 2 to the pandemic. Our thoughts are with her family at this sad time.
She has been a regular visitor to Manchester, and in Withington we remember her visits to our local hospitals. The photo is from her visit to Withington Hospital in 1982, and she visited The Christie in 2005. We remember too her support after the 2017 Manchester bombing, and the celebration of the Commonwealth Games in 2002. She will be deeply missed by the people of Manchester.
