We’ve had a handful of cases in my office recently where pregnant women have been fined for not having the right certification to claim for free prescriptions.

A maternity exemption (MatEx) certificate entitles you to free NHS prescriptions. You can also use the certificate as proof that you are entitled to free NHS dental treatment while you are pregnant.

Please do speak to your doctor, midwife or health visitor to make sure they have applied for a maternity exemption certificate on your behalf – you must have this certificate to claim.
