Our great result in Manchester Withington took place on a remarkable night for Labour across the country. The British people have chosen to turn a new page on 14 years of chaos and decline to restore Government to the service of the people, and to restore integrity and to Government. With Keir Starmer as our Labour Prime Minister we now have the chance to start rebuilding Britain.
I’m proud to have been elected on a manifesto of Labour policies that will improve people’s lives. With GB Energy and our Green Prosperity Plan, we will accelerate the transition to clean power and net zero – bringing down bills, creating good jobs, and tackling the climate crisis.
With planning reform, we will unleash a programme of housebuilding, beginning to tackle the housing crisis. We’ll also deliver real justice for private renters with proper reform, including a swift end to Section 21 no-fault evictions.
We’ll bring the railways into public ownership as existing contracts expire, delivering rail reform and a unified system that focuses on reliable, affordable, quality services.
We’ll implement ‘Labour’s Plan to Make Work Pay: Delivering a New Deal for Working People’, transforming workers’ rights. This will include banning exploitative zero hours contracts; ending fire and rehire; and introducing basic rights from day one to parental leave, sick pay, and protection from unfair dismissal.
And we’ll tackle the crisis in schools, including by recruiting 6,500 more teachers, employing mental health support staff in every school, and introducing free breakfast clubs in every primary school in England to give children the best start to the day.
These are just some of Labour’s plans to rebuild the country.
As your MP, I will do everything I can to serve everyone in our community and repay the trust you have placed in me.
