Jeff Smith MP has welcomed the Government’s comprehensive response to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry’s final report, which outlines decisive reforms to prevent such a tragedy from ever occurring again.

The Government has committed to implementing all 58 recommendations from the Inquiry, focusing on enhancing building safety, enforcing stricter regulations, and ensuring accountability within the construction industry.

Key measures include:

• Establishing a Single Construction Regulator: A new regulator will oversee building safety, holding those responsible accountable and ensuring adherence to stringent safety standards.
• Strengthening Oversight of Construction Products: The Government plans to introduce tougher regulations on the testing and certification of building materials, with severe consequences for non-compliance.
• Investigating Seven Companies for Misconduct: Investigations will be launched into seven organisations implicated in the Grenfell tragedy, potentially leading to their exclusion from future public contracts.
• Enhancing Legal Rights for Residents: Residents will be empowered with stronger legal rights to challenge landlords and demand safe, high-quality housing.
