I hold regular meetings with local constituents to discuss climate change issues and the importance of building a strong and bold climate action plan. It was good to catch up again on Friday as part of the Friends of the Earth action weekend.
Our discussion touched on some important challenges and opportunities for the new government. It is great to engage with campaigners who are committed to creating a sustainable future and making a difference.
As we strive to become a global clean energy leader, I welcome the progress the Labour government have made since taking office. In the first 100 days we ended the nine-year de facto onshore wind ban; consented 1.3GW of solar power projects; held the most successful ‘contracts for difference’ auction yet; and set up a new mission control at the heart of government to deliver clean power by 2030. And we’ve introduced the Bill to set up Great British Energy – to ensure that the UK meets its climate targets and secures a prosperous, low-carbon future.
